What else matters here
Eight hundred and thirty five feet of six foot privacy fence is an enormous amount of material: 1,822 pickets is roughly five tons of lumber, and 424 bags of concrete is over ten tons on its own. At this scale, the material choice is the budget.
This is where most people switch products. Field fence, split rail, or three strand wire on treated posts covers an acre for a fraction of privacy fence and is what the perimeter of an acre usually wants anyway. Save the privacy fence for the section nearest the house.
If it really is privacy fence all the way round, get quotes on panel delivery and on a powered auger. Digging 106 post holes by hand is not a weekend, and rented one man augers stall in clay and roots far more than the rental counter suggests.
What this calculator assumes
- Sections are the length divided by the spacing, and posts are sections plus one. Corners and gates each add a post on top of that.
- Concrete per hole is the hole volume less the post, figured at a 4x4. Two 50 lb bags per hole is the common shortcut and it is close.
- Set posts a third of their length in the ground in frost country, and check your local frost depth before you dig.

About 835 feet if the acre is square. A long narrow acre can need well over a thousand, so measure rather than assume.
Is privacy fence worth it for an acre?
Rarely for the whole perimeter. Most people run privacy fence near the house and a cheaper boundary fence for the rest, which costs a fraction and looks intentional.
How long does it take to fence an acre?
With a powered auger and a crew, several days to a week. By hand, plan in weeks. The digging is the schedule, not the fence.
