What else matters here

Framing does not scale the way the surface does. Doubling the area roughly doubles the joists and the screws, but the beams get deeper, the posts get bigger, the footings get wider, and the number of footings rises with the perimeter rather than the area. A deck twice the size is frequently more than twice the frame.
If it is going in composite, the span rating is the thing to check before anything is ordered. Most composite decking is rated for 16 inch joist spacing laid straight and 12 inch laid on a diagonal, and a few premium boards want 12 either way. Finding that out after the frame is built means adding a joist between every pair across 600 square feet.
What this calculator assumes
- A nominal 2x6 board is 5.5 inches of actual face. Nominal sizes are not real sizes, which is where most deck orders go wrong.
- Joist count is the span across the deck width at the spacing given, plus one for the last joist.
- Waste is not added. Add 5 to 10 percent if the deck is not a plain rectangle.
