What else matters here
Thirty five sheets. A half inch 4 by 8 sheet weighs around 52 pounds, so that is roughly 1,800 pounds of board, which is past what a half ton pickup should carry and well past what most people expect.
Lightweight half inch board runs about 41 pounds a sheet and takes 400 pounds off that number, which matters if it is going up a staircase by hand. Five eighths type X goes the other way at around 70 pounds a sheet, and 35 of those is 2,450 pounds.
Get it delivered, and get it delivered into the room rather than onto the driveway if the supplier offers it. Boom truck delivery through a window opening is standard on new construction for a reason, and on a remodel the upcharge for carrying it inside is usually less than a day of somebody's time.
What this calculator assumes
- Joint compound is figured at one 4.5 gallon bucket per 475 sq ft of board for a full three coat finish. A level 5 finish uses more.
- Tape is figured at 380 linear feet per 1000 sq ft of board, screws at 32 per sheet for 16 inch on center framing.
- Longer sheets mean fewer butt joints, which is less taping and a flatter wall. Use 12 footers where they will fit through the door.
