The material list on this page includes two transition strips, and that is a placeholder rather than an answer. Count the openings: every doorway, every change of material, and the top of every stair needs a piece, and they are not the same piece.
A T-molding joins two floors of the same height and hides the expansion gap on both sides. A reducer steps down to something thinner, like tile to vinyl. A threshold or end cap finishes against carpet, a slider track or a hearth. Order them in the matching color with the flooring, because they come out of the same batch and are much harder to find later.
What this calculator assumes
- 10 percent waste covers a straight lay in a simple rectangle. Go to 15 for a diagonal or herringbone lay, and 20 if the room is cut up with closets and angles.
- Buy the whole job in one delivery. Dye lot and batch shade move between production runs, and a single replacement box six months later will not match.
